Service area Krems & Wachau.

The centre is Krems an der Donau with Stein. Our car stands there, at Bahnhofplatz next to the railway station — from there every direction is a similar distance away. Where a figure is given below, it is the approximate road distance to Krems, the same one shown on that place’s own page — Krems itself carries none.

Upstream lies the Wachau: Dürnstein, Weißenkirchen and Spitz on the northern bank, Mautern and Rossatz-Arnsdorf on the southern one, and behind them Bergern im Dunkelsteinerwald with the pilgrimage village of Maria Langegg. Further upstream on the right bank is Schönbühel-Aggsbach; the municipal office is in Aggsbach-Dorf. The old Stein–Mautern bridge is closed to cars; we reach the south bank by road, and that is everyday business for us.

To the north the land rises into the Kremstal and the Kamptal: Rohrendorf, Senftenberg, Stratzing, Lengenfeld, Langenlois and Hadersdorf am Kamp, and beyond them Droß and Gföhl in the Waldviertel. On the edge of the Kremstal in the Waldviertel lies Weinzierl am Walde; the Kleine Krems forms its municipal boundary to the north-west, and the municipal office is in Nöhagen. Further up the Kamp valley, past Langenlois, lies Schönberg am Kamp with Stiefern and Plank am Kamp, and beyond that Rosenburg-Mold. North-east of Hadersdorf, at the southern end of the Manhartsberg, is Straß im Straßertale.

East of Krems are Gedersdorf, Grafenegg and, in the neighbouring Tulln district, Grafenwörth with Feuersbrunn; south of the Danube, Furth bei Göttweig and Paudorf at the edge of the Dunkelsteinerwald, plus Traismauer and Nußdorf ob der Traisen in the Traisental. In the lower Traisental, Statzendorf, Wölbling, Obritzberg-Rust, Inzersdorf-Getzersdorf and the town of Herzogenburg each have a page of their own. Further east on the Wagram, Fels am Wagram has a page of its own, together with Gösing am Wagram, Stettenhof and Thürnthal; we drive to Engabrunn as well — it is listed further down among the villages.
