The address of Hotel Schloss Dürnstein has no street in it, just “Dürnstein 2” — and that is also the address you give us when you book. We collect hotel guests and their suitcases at Vienna Airport or Krems railway station, and anyone who only comes for a meal at the castle restaurant rides home with us afterwards.
A castle hotel, not the ruin
Not to be confused with the medieval castle ruin on the hill above the town: the hotel is a castle right on the Danube, commissioned by Christoph Wilhelm von Zelking and built between 1622 and 1630. In September 1683 Emperor Leopold I received the news of Vienna’s liberation in Dürnstein; according to the house’s own history, he was staying at the castle at the time. Today the siblings Maria-Katharina Thiery-Schroll and Johannes Christian Thiery run the hotel as the third generation of the Thiery family. It has a spa with an indoor pool and an outdoor pool in the castle courtyard, and a restaurant whose large terrace sits above the river.
Up to the castle
For rail travellers, the hotel’s directions end at Krems station, with a bus or taxi for the rest of the way — and Krems station is also where we are based. According to the hotel, the access road for cars turns off at the B3 road tunnel and climbs the hill to the castle. The town itself is a no-parking zone; where we stop with your suitcases, we agree with you when you book.
Leaving the castle
For the ride on departure day, enter “Dürnstein 2” in the street and house number field of the online form, with postcode 3601 and town Dürnstein. Also let us know when your train leaves Krems or your flight departs from Vienna Airport; we set the pickup time at the castle accordingly and load your suitcases at the agreed stopping point.

What address do we give for the ride from Vienna Airport to the castle?
Write “Dürnstein 2, 3601 Dürnstein” — there is no street in the address. In the online form, choose “Pickup at the airport” and enter it as the destination address. The ride between Vienna Airport (VIE) and Dürnstein runs at a fixed price that we quote in advance on the phone.
We are arriving with several suitcases — what should we tell you?
In the online form you count hand luggage, small and large suitcases and bulky items separately, so we know before the ride what has to go in the boot. Tell us the number of people when you book and we plan the ride accordingly.
We are only coming for a meal at the castle restaurant — will you drive us home?
Yes. According to the hotel, the restaurant is open to everyone, not just to those staying in the house. If you have reserved a table with the hotel, tell us what time we should pick you up after your meal; the official taxi tariff applies in the region. Please check the opening times and season of the restaurant and spa with the house beforehand.
