Loibnerhof in Unterloiben
Loibnerhof stands in Unterloiben, a village in the Danube valley between Krems and Dürnstein’s old town that has been part of the town of Dürnstein since 1971. The building was once a harvest manor (Lesehof) of Ranshofen Abbey and, by the house’s own account, is 400 years old. The Knolls have been the hosts here for more than a century; Sepp Knoll and his son Josef run the kitchen together. The food is down-to-earth and regional — Tafelspitz (boiled beef), for instance, or Kalbsbutterschnitzel, a patty of minced veal that is browned and then braised. In the warmer months you can also sit in the garden across from the main house, under apple trees. A few steps away is Weingut Emmerich Knoll, a separate winery run by a cousin; some of its wines are on Loibnerhof’s list.
Short of Oberloiben and the old town
The postal address, 3601 Dürnstein, easily puts you on the wrong track: Loibnerhof is not in the lanes below the blue tower but in Unterloiben, which you reach before Oberloiben when coming from Krems. An ordinary village street leads to the house, so we can stop at its door. Pickup can be at home in Krems, at your hotel, at the station or by the river pier.
Picked up right at the house
Unlike in Dürnstein’s old town, where the taxi stops short of the lanes, in Unterloiben the car waits right outside Loibnerhof. We agree the time on the phone; your own car gets the day off.

At Loibnerhof, Unterloiben 7: the garden lies just across from the main house, so it is only a few steps. Tell us the pickup time when you order the ride out. Whether the garden is open on your day and when the restaurant receives guests, please check with Loibnerhof directly beforehand.

Wherever you like. According to loiben30, the rooms are at Unterloiben 30, but check-in is at Loibnerhof, Unterloiben 7. Tell us when you book whether we should stop at check-in first with your luggage. If you head on to Vienna Airport (VIE) later, we quote the fixed price for that in advance on the phone.
